Chris Andrews – Then One Day…: 40 Years of Bookmaking in Nevada
Growing up under the watchful eye and influence of his Uncle Jack Franzi, legendary Pittsburgh wiseguy and Las Vegas sportsbook pioneer, Chris started booking sports bets in the fifth rank. He adopted Uncle Jack port to NEVADA soon after graduating university in the middle-70s, getting his first job in the sports publication at the Stardust immediately after the bad-old Frank Rosenthal and Chicago mob program. Next, he relocated to the Barbary Seacoast where he began managing major action, onetime dropping $250,000 with an eight-hour shift.
At years 25, Chris became the youngest athletics book director available at the Golf club Cal Neva in Reno. He began to make his tag on the industry, inventing the pleaser and 10-point teaser credit cards, presenting Super Bowl-style prop wagers for Monday Night time Football game, and, perhaps most of all, providing Roxy Roxborough, Las Vegas most important oddsmaker, his first paying job.
